The Philadelphia Argentine Tango School was founded in 2008 to offer top-notch instruction in Argentine tango to beginners through professional dancers in Philadelphia. Two of the three staff, Andres Amarilla & Damian Lobato, are Argentine teachers who have been dancing tango for 20+ years.
In addition to group and private lessons, the Philadelphia Argentine Tango School offers two weekly practicas, monthly milongas and occasional larger events. We organized the 1st Philadelphia International Tango Festival in May 2010, and have hosted two major electronic tango bands, Otros Aires and Tanghetto, in addition to workshops with world-renowned tango instructors including Javier Antar & Kara Wenham, Carolina Zokalski & Diego Di Falco, Anabella Diaz Hojman & Mario Consiglieri, Cecilia Garcia & Santiago Dorkas, Oliver Kolker & Silvina Valz, Evan Griffiths, and many, many more. In addition to teaching in Philadelphia, our instructors regularly travel to teach and perform world-wide. In the past two years, Philadelphia Argentine Tango Instructors have taught in England, France, Spain, Poland, Brazil, Argentina, Australia, Canada and throughout the US.
In October 2009, School Founders Andres Amarilla & Meredith Klein established a permanent studio in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia. They are enthusiastically collaborating with other local arts and development organizations to help build a robust Frankford Ave Arts Corridor.
