TANGO TOUR TO BUENOS AIRES:
April 16-25, 2012
Milongas & Practicas
These days, there's not one single "Buenos Aires tango scene." Rather, milongas & practicas happen in a wide range of different spaces, with many different kinds of ambiance, and with different styles of tango predominating. There are milongas where the median age of dancer is over 60; there are practicas where alternative music is woven into the mix; there's a practica where most dancers are under 30 and yet everyone dances in an extremely close embrace; and there's a milonga where you can go twice a week to hear absolutely first-class live tango played by an Orquesta Tipica in which all 10 musicians are under age 40. There are gay milongas, milongas where people go to hang out more than to dance, and milongas where the whole community gathers, irregardless of age, tango style, level of dance, or any other criterion.
One of the main reasons to come on our tour is that it would take you the better part of a year to discover all of these parts of the Buenos Aires tango scene on your own. However, with our guidance you'll see all of these facets of the Buenos Aires tango scene - and more - in the space of just 9 nights. In addition, we scour the milongas to find out where the most exciting performances will be happening during our tour (the schedule changes daily) and we take you to see whichever performances we think are most interesting/important to see.
The tour group attends 1-2 milongas or practicas daily. We cover the cost of admission to milongas & practicas on the group's itinerary.
