We’re so happy to have Carla Marano back in Philadelphia for a second residency of 2023. She’ll be teaching the regular class schedule, giving private lessons, and adding some special workshops between August 2 and August 30.
Wednesdays, August 2-30
7-8 pm: Intermediate Tango
Everyone practices both roles. Everyone changes partners.
8/2: Leader & Follower Barridas
8/9: Sequences - Follower Boleos and Leader Sacadas
8/16: Milonga rhythm - Short & Easy Sequences for the dance floor
8/23: Turns with Lapices, Paradas & Sacadas
8/30: Follower & Leader Ganchos (Taught by Carla & Meredith)
8-9 pm: Beginner Tango. Material is chosen each week based on the students in attendance. New students are welcome each week!
9 pm-midnight: Palermo Fishtown Milonga
Friendly environment. Great music. Food & drink.
Free with purchase of either class. $10 otherwise.

7-8 pm: Tango Technique
All levels. No partner required.
8/7: Walking - calibrating impulses, leg alignment, footwork
8/14: Free leg vs. Standing Leg. Freedom vs stability. Embellishments with different dynamics and intensities
8/21: Spirals - different degrees of rotation. Forward & backward ochos
8/28: Turns - Rhythm -Technique
8-9:30 pm: Partners-Only Int-Adv Tango
Partner required to attend. If you’re looking for a partner, we may be able to help.
8/7: Walks with changes of rhythm & changes of systems
8/14: Paradas with embellishments and Leader/Follower sacadas
8/21: Combinations of forward & backward ochos for both roles
8/28: Turns with sacadas (Taught with Meredith)

Intermediate-Level Tango Intensive
We’ve had such great groups in the Beginner and Advanced Beginner Intensives this summer that we’re going to add the next level, an Intermediate-Level Intensive, over the August 26-27 weekend. The Intensive will be taught by Carla Marano & Meredith Klein, and focus on expanding your repertoire for social dancing.
Topics covered include:
- Half turns
- Simple Llevadas
- Paradas & Ochos
- Easy Sacadas
As always, we also focus on:
- Individual Technique
- Lead-and-follow improvisation
- Navigation of the social dance floor
- Basic musicality: Phrasing and the Beat

Look forward to seeing you for an end-of-summer Milonga Qilombo with a great all-female cast. Carla Marano & Meredith Klein will teach the pre-milonga class, and DJ Mary Carmel Etienne will play excellent tandas to keep you on your feet all night. Look forward to seeing you.
